Ana Maria Markovic was born on November 9, 1999, in Split, Croatia. She moved with her family to Switzerland at the age of 12, growing up in Zurich. Aged 14, Ana Maria Markovic began playing football in Switzerland. She stated that she began playing after feeling motivated by the growth of women’s football.
Ana Maria Markovic started her professional career in 2017 at FC Zurich Frauen in Nationalliga B, where stayed for two seasons. In 2017-18, she played 4 matches and scored 3 goals, while in the next season she had 11 matches and 2 goals.
In 2020, Ana Maria Markovic signed with Grasshopper to play in the Swiss WSL. In the first season, she had 30 matches and 8 goals in the League and Cup. In 2021-21, she had 25 matches and 7 goals, while i the next season she had 6 matches and 1 goal.
Having caught the eye of the Croatian Football Federation while playing for Grasshopper in Switzerland, Ana Maria Markovic was called up to play for the Croatia national team in 2021. For the national team, she has 7 matches and one goal.
